The NRH Paediatric Whizzy Wheels 2024 Event took place this July in the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH). The 3-day event was a massive success again this year, providing valuable support and guidance to NRH paediatric patients, past and present, with spinal cord injuries and their families. The NRH IDT Paediatric Team, along with support from other NRH Programme staff, IWA’s Mark Barry, the Team at SII, NRH Volunteers, Peer supporters and the NRH Foundation, pulled out all the stops to ensure this year was a memorable event for all involved. This year, NRH OT Sharon Leahy secured an amazing Bursary from the AOTI Eva Duggan Award, which greatly supported the many activities that took place throughout the 3 day workshop.

The Whizzy Wheels event was packed with enjoyment, camaraderie, and activities such as a speedboat trip by SII, tennis, archery, wheelchair skills training, rugby matches, hand cycling, therapeutic makeup sessions, adaptive cross-fit, and a heartwarming visit from one of the NRH Peata Pet Therapy dogs. We do hope all involved enjoyed this very unique event organised by the NRH Paediatric Programme.
The success of the event this year was also thanks to the amazing sponsors and supporters of the event. Through their generosity and thoughtfulness, each child participating in the event received an amazing goodie bag. A heartfelt thank you to O’Neill’s and Thinking Toys for their generous donations towards these goodie bags.
