News and events News 2017 Pyjama Day Fund Early Childhood Ireland announces grantees of 2017 Pyjama Day Fund The NRH Foundation is delighted to announce that we have been selected as one of five charities, chosen by Early Childhood Ireland, to receive a grant in aid of the NRH Paediatric Programme, and more specifically to be used towards a Play Tool Project to help parents and carers of the NRH Paediatric Patients. A total of five charities were selected to receive a portion of the funds raised on Pyjama Day earlier this year, which amounted to almost €200,000. Each charity supports children with additional needs under the age of 6. Pyjama Day, organised by Early Childhood Ireland, is now in its 14th year. The annual event sees children sponsored to wear their pyjamas into crèche and preschool to raise money for children’s causes. This year 60,000 children from 1,300 crèches and preschools nationwide signed up for the event. The funds raised add to the €2.5 million already raised by Pyjama Day for children’s charities across Ireland. The purpose of the grant is to give time for and to help children play during times of particular stress in their lives. This project creates a unique resource to support children with their rehabilitation journey and to help parents/caregivers develop a range of skills in children outside of direct therapy sessions, even when times may be particularly difficult. The development of this tool will be facilitated during their individual inpatient rehabilitation stay with the view of gaining knowledge of suitable and relevant play activities to engage in at home, and in community settings, such as Montessori and Play School. We would like to say a huge THANK YOU to The Community Foundation for Ireland for facilitating this grant application scheme and to Early Childhood Ireland for choosing the NRH Foundation.
