Garda Cycle This Thursday 13th of June
Keep an eye on the roads as Ballymun Garda Station / H District take up this unique challenge on their bikes to raise funds for the National Rehabilitation Hospital, Aware and Pieta House. 65 Gardaí and 10 volunteers will travel 140km from Ballymun Garda Station to Kilkenny to raise vital funds and awareness for these chosen charities.
The Gardaí decided to help raise awareness of mental health issues and assist charities involved in this area by organising a sponsored charity cycle.
The three recipient charities for all funds raised are:
- Aware – nominated for the work they are engaged in with suicide prevention and victim support.
- Pieta House – nominated as a charity who are also engaged in suicide prevention with a local amenity in Ballymun which junior members can relate to as part of their community project.
- National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) – nominated as having to provide for both physical and mental wellbeing of patients including Garda staff
If you would like to support this challenge a go fund me page has been set up www.gofundme.com/hdistrictsocialcycle and all funds raised will be divided between the three nominated charities with no money raised being utilised on administration, refreshments etc. To further boost funds for the charities a quiz night was held on 12th April and a static cycle event was held at the Omni Shopping Centre on 18th May.
We would like to wish everyone involved the very best of luck this Friday and to thank them for choosing the NRH as one of their beneficiary Charites, for which we are very grateful.
If you see them on route on Thursday be sure to cheer them on!
